Tennis Masters and Asian Hopman Cup

Sharapova and Mauresmo To fight for top spot as the Madrid Sony Erricson Championships Begins on tuesday.The season ending championships will run from 7th to 12th november and carries a total prize money of $3, 000,000. Top eight players women are divided into two groups named Yellow and Red.

Sharapova will try to win this tournament and regain the top spot, as she is only 15 points behind mauresmo, (3532 to her 3547 points). Meanwhile Indian tennis sensation Sania Mirza has slipped in rankings to 69th position with 382 points because of the poor season this year.

Players have started arriving for the season finale tournament comprising of top 8 men players to be played in shanghai. Federer is seeking his third Masters Cup title in four years and a personal-best 12th title of the season. James Blake was the last one to make it to the top 8. This year Andre Agassi will be missed at the masters tournament. Indian Leander Paes will also be participating in this tournament in the doubles category pairing with Martin Damm.

Asian Hopman Cup

India will host China, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Uzbekistan for the first edition of the Asian Hopman Cup in which a man and a woman player from each country play two singles and one doubles matches. Sania Mirza is pairing up with Leander Paes for the first time. Total prize money is US$ 70,000 and the winner will play with the seven best nations namely Australia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Korea Repubic, Russia, Spain, USA in the main event to be held at Perth in Australia from 30th Dec 2006 to 5th Jan 2007.We can expect some surprize from India as it is playing in home
